What is PTSD? What are its Symptoms?
PTSD, or posttraumatic stress disorder, is a set of reactions that can occur after someone has been through a traumatic event. The condition may last months or years, with triggers that can bring back memories of the trauma accompanied by intense emotional and physical reactions.
Why does one need Professional help?
In unfavourable times and overbearing pressures, life can be unfathomable and overwhelming. In these circumstances, it is normal to experience hopelessness and loneliness. Psychologists offer treatment for mental health issues such as Depression, Anxiety, Stress, OCD, Fears, Phobias, Eating Disorders using talk therapies that are approved as evidence-based. Such therapies reorient the thinking style and help clients to make required changes in their life and perception of events to ease their mental stress and anxiety.
Symptoms of PTSD
1. Re-living the traumatic event through distressing, unwanted memories, vivid nightmares and/or flashbacks.
2. Avoiding reminders of the traumatic event, including activities, places, people, thoughts or feelings that bring back memories of the trauma.
3. Negative thoughts and feelings such as fear, anger, guilt, or feeling flat or numb a lot of the time. This further results in social exclusion and sometimes develops a habit of alcohol and drugs.
If you have experienced something traumatic and are still having problems two weeks or more later, talk to a mental health professional.
